At almost every business networking event I attend, someone inevitably asks:“What are you celebrating this week?” It’s meant to spark positivity, and I get it — it’s a great question.
But I’ll be honest: some days, I internally groan.
Because when I’m tired, stressed, behind on everything, and definitely not feeling like my best self… the last thing I want to do is pretend I’m winning at life.
But here’s what I’ve learned — and it’s something I now share with the women I work with in my functional medicine and health coaching practice:
There is always a small win to acknowledge.
And those little wins? They’re everything.
- That short walk between meetings.
- That one meal you actually sat down to enjoy.
- Choosing sleep over scrolling.
- Drinking water before coffee.
- Not losing it when stress hit hard.
- Eating the vegetables instead of the sugar.
These small wins create real shifts in your hormones — especially cortisol and blood sugar — which directly impact your weight, mood, energy, and stress resilience.
When you celebrate a win, you’re not just “being positive.” You’re rewiring your brain to feel safe. And when your brain feels safe, cortisol calms down, blood sugar stabilizes, and your body stops working against you.
This is the science behind sustainable change:
- Lower cortisol = less belly fat and more stable mood
- Balanced blood sugar = fewer cravings, better sleep, more energy
- Small, doable habits = long-term success without burnout
So the next time you’re asked, “What are you celebrating?” — don’t roll your eyes.
Take a breath.
Find the smallest win.
And let your body take in the message: You’re doing better than you think.
I have to remind my coaching clients (and myself!) this all the time. Just this small shift in perspective, acknowledging yourself for what you are doing, is huge!
And if you’re ready to turn those small wins into real momentum — with a plan that supports your hormones and metabolism — health coaching and/or hormone testing might be your next step.
Maybe you’re not sure what’s off—you just know you’re tired of guessing and want to feel better now.
